U-14’s vs Dingle – Central Region League – 02/07/12

Dingle 1-4

Laune Rangers 4-15

Laune Rangers produced a strong performance in response to their first round defeat in the central district competition to come out victorious away to Dingle on Monday evening last.

The half started with the KIllorglin side setting their stall out early, showing first to the ball and linking up well with some clever running off the ball. The early dominance by the visitors was rewarding with successive points from Jamie Clifford and Jesse McCormack. The Dingle side were finding it hard to cope with the visitors sustained pressure and the quick ,long  ball tactic was rewarded with full forward Keelin Houlihan finishing a well worked move to the net coupled with a tidy scores from corner forward Patrick Daly and Cathal Doyle.

The Dingle side were defending to the best of their ability but the visitors kept the pressure on throughout the half with crisp passing and strong running from midfield and half forwards starting to pay dividends. The pace of Jamie Clifford at centre forward was causing problems and his direct running was rewarded with 2 further first half scores after well worked moves from the backline after recycling possession.

The visitors back line kept on top of their men and managed to snuff out any whiff of a scoring opportunity from the lively Dingle forwards. The loss of Jack Cox to injury forced a reshuffle of the team with Cian Shea entering the fore and the adaptable Jesse McCormack moving to wing back. The team was not weakened by the enforced change and the score line was added to with points from play by Both Patrick Daly and Carey along with Keelin Houlihan striking for his second goal of the game.

Dingle to their credit stuck to the game plan and kept working the ball and some smart attacking was rewarded with 2 frees conceded before half time, both converted to open their account for the half. At the half time whistle the teams left the field on a score line of 2-12 to 0-2.

The second half saw a raft of changes from the Killorglin side with the fringe players being given a chance to stake a claim for a starting position. The home side started strongly, clearly rallied by their half time pep talk and took the game to the Laune Rangers side. A sustained period of pressure from the Dingle side was rewarded through a well taken goal after some great build up play from broken ball out the field. The Killorglin side responded in the best fashion to the challenge being posed and kept the scoreboard ticking over through Jamie Clifford and Cian Shea points. The captain Neil O Brien showed his metal with a well taken goal after a lung busting run from midfield to keep the Dingle comeback on Ice.

The Dingle side buoyed by the winning of more possession around the field started to put some passes together and exploit the spaces that were appearing in the Laune Rangers defence and but for 2 fine saves by Keeper Fionnan O Sullivan a fight back may well and truly have been on the cards. Patrick Daly again struck from play in response to the Dingle resurgence with a well taken score and this was followed with another Cian Shea point.

One final score form the home side drew to a close the end of a one sided game in which the visitors proved too strong for the Dingle side. The Laune Rangers squad gave a good account of themselves on the whole ahead of their home fixture with Milltown  next Monday. The half time substitutions each performed well and have given the mentors plenty of food for thought ahead of upcoming fixtures and strong performances across a variety of positions only serve to highlight the benefits of having a strong panel of players to select from .

The Final score on the night saw the Laune Rangers side come away victors 4-15 to 1-4.
